What a “block” is

A block is a one-time exception to a barber’s usual weekly schedule. Use blocks for:

  • Lunch breaks
  • Training
  • Sick days / annual leave
  • Short appointments out of shop (bank, school pickup, etc.)

Blocks protect your calendar: customers won’t be able to book during blocked time, and the calendar view stays realistic.

Adding a block

In the admin portal:

  1. Open Availability.
  2. Select the barber you’re editing (if required).
  3. Choose Add block.
  4. Set date, start time, and end time.
  5. Add a reason (recommended) so everyone understands why the time is unavailable.
  6. Save.

Viewing and deleting blocks

Blocks are usually visible on the same Availability page, often in a list or calendar. If plans change, delete the block (or adjust times) to restore bookable slots.

How blocks show on the admin calendar

On the calendar view, blocks typically appear as a background event or a distinct card in the barber’s column. This makes it obvious why there’s a gap in bookings.

Best practices for blocks

  • Use consistent reasons (e.g., “Lunch”, “Training”, “Away”).
  • Set lunch blocks in advance to avoid accidental bookings during lunch.
  • If a barber is away all day, block the full day (and consider marking them inactive temporarily if it’s extended).
